Community Action of Nebraska, Inc.

Community Action of Nebraska, Inc. is a nonprofit agency that has been provided two AFI grants since 2010. The grantee, along with other community action agencies, affordable housing providers, Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services, Division of Children and Family Services, private philanthropists, and statewide nonprofit organizations have formed the Nebraska IDA Network with the goal of promoting quality and consistency in policy and practice among current and future IDA programs.

The Nebraska IDA Network emphasizes homeownership, postsecondary education, and business capitalization, with the goal of reducing poverty in the community by teaching financial literacy and money management skills, and providing an incentive to build long-term assets and attain self-sufficiency. This network has been successful at building a strong, centralized administrative support system for local IDA programs across the State to improve their effectiveness and cost efficiencies.

Partners for this network include Voices for Children in Nebraska, Community Action Partnership of Western Nebraska, Lincoln Action Program, Nebraska Children and Families Foundation, and Family Housing Advisory Services, which administer IDA programs locally; and the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services - Division of Children and Family Services, which administers State and Federal aid programs and provides outreach and referral services for the AFI project.
