West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc. is a nonprofit organization that has provided five AFI grants since 2003, with the objective of offering opportunities to strengthen employers’ human assets, increase employers’ financial assets, and build community assets.
West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc. is a Network grantee with 22 subgrantees. This grantee emphasizes homeownership, education opportunities, and business capitalization with the goal of breaking the cycle of poverty for participating families by increasing their financial assets and providing financial planning tools that can be used throughout their lives. This grantee has been successful in training the coordinators who assist account holders in homeownership, career exploration, and small business development; partnering with agencies that can offer financial coaching and other services to participants; outreach and screening of accountholders; and working collaboratively with partner agencies.
Partners for West Central Minnesota Communities Action, Inc. include AccountAbility Minnesota, Women Venture, Leech Lake Band, City County Credit Union, Greater Twin Cities United Way, and Bremmer Bank, which provide accounting assistance and tax help to low-income families and small businesses, financial education, asset-specific education, case management, one-on-one financial coaching, coordination of the AFI project, and collaborations with local businesses.
