Upper Cumberland Human Resource Agency is a nonprofit organization that has provided two AFI grants since 2003, with the objective to breaking the cycle of poverty in the region by encouraging asset building.
The agency emphasizes homeownership, postsecondary education, and business capitalization, with the goal of assisting working poor people of the 14-county Upper Cumberland region of middle Tennessee in building assets to provide independence and self-sufficiency. This grantee has been successful developing partnerships to provide IDA savers with a wide range of supportive services.
Partners
The agency partners with the University of Tennessee Extension Program, Upper Cumberland Development District, Tennessee Small Business Development Center, and Habitat for Humanity to provide financial curricula, home buyer education, one-on-one business plan development assistance, small business counseling and seminars, and outreach assistance.
