Institute for Social and Economic Development

Institute for Social and Economic Development is a nonprofit agency that has provided three AFI grants since 1999, with the objective of assisting eligible youth and adults with children living in St. Louis and Wellston, MO, to build assets by obtaining college degrees, buying first homes, or starting businesses.

Institute for Social and Economic Development emphasizes homeownership, postsecondary education, and business capitalization, with the goal of assisting low-income youth and adults with children living in St. Louis and Wellston, MO, to accumulate assets. This grantee has been successful in recruiting participants from employment programs offered by Hi-Tech Charities.

Institute for Social and Economic Development partners with Bankers Trust, City of Des Moines Economic Development Citizens for Community Improvement, Allianza, African American Business Association, HOME, Inc., Habitat for Humanity, Iowa New Choices, Iowa State University Extension, Family Self-Sufficiency Program, Immigrant Rights Network, Iowa Department of Human Services, Iowa Workforce Development, Iowa Finance Authority, United Way of Central Iowa, Wells Fargo, Iowa Homeownership Education Project, city of Waterloo, Operation Threshold, St. Paul A.M.E. church, and Des Moines Area Community College to provide space for financial literacy classes, participant training, recruitment support, and case management services.
